Calgary’s Trusted Name in Lower Back Pain Care

Hi! I’m Dr. Rebecca-Jane McAllister, your Chiropractic and Lower Back Pain expert in Southern Calgary

I help people with low back pain (with or without leg pain) understand and manage their pain, so they can do the things they have to do and love to do each day, without having their lives dictated by their pain!

Personal Story

As an award-winning chiropractor and educator focused on low back pain in Calgary, I’ve spent over 5 years helping people across the country who feel stuck with back pain – often after trying rest, quick treatments, or generic exercise plans that never quite solved the problem.

This focus that has shaped my career didn’t come from a textbook – it came from personal experience and started much earlier.

As a teenager, I dealt with unpredictable knee and ankle pain that sometimes made it difficult to walk and other times disappeared completely, allowing me to dance at a pre-professional level and play competitive soccer without limitation. Despite seeing multiple healthcare providers, I was repeatedly told I was young, active, and simply needed to slow down. The bigger picture didn’t become clear until my ballet teacher noticed postural asymmetry and my pediatrician ordered diagnostic imaging, which revealed scoliosis. As my symptoms progressed and back pain entered the mix, I became deeply frustrated with care that felt rushed, vague, or disconnected from how my body actually moved and felt.

The turning point came when I saw a chiropractor who took the time to explain why my pain was happening—how my spine, movement patterns, and symptoms were connected. For the first time, I felt informed, understood, and in control of my body again. That experience changed everything. At 14, I decided I wanted to become the kind of clinician who educates, listens, and treats the whole person—not just the painful area.

Now, that same philosophy shapes everything I do. I spent 8 years studying the human body; holding a Bachelor of Human Kinetics (Honours) with a major in Movement Science and a minor in Psychology as well as a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, with additional training in contemporary medical acupuncture. I’m also currently 1 of only 5 chiropractors in Calgary trained to deliver the GLA:D Back Program, an internationally recognized, research-based approach to persistent low back pain. After seeing thousands of patients and practicing all over Canada, I see what actually works in real life—not just in ideal conditions.

Today, I offer thorough, personalized, chiropractic care in SE Calgary. My approach combines hands-on treatment, movement therapy, acupuncture, education, and progressive rehab strategies designed to hold up in daily life—especially for people who are active, busy, or on their feet all day.

My goal is simple: to help you understand your pain, trust your body again, and return to work, movement, and life without your back pain running the show.

Formal Training

Throughout my post-secondary education, I have received several scholarships and awards for academic achievement, philanthropy and service work, as well as research endeavours.

Additionally, I have practiced as an associate in my hometown of Oshawa, Ontario as well as with clinics in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and Calgary, Alberta. Currently, I am offering chiropractic care within my own practice in SE Calgary, Alberta. I also offer the GLA:D Back Program (both virtually and in person) within my private practices as well as with the University of Calgary. I also sit on the Chiropractic Association of Alberta’s Board of Directors.
